Originally posted by bigbluebronco43 Ok the SRT10 has 22" wheels and tires with a completely redesigned rear suspension unique to the truck, so I don't think getting the power to the ground will be much more of a problem then the current Lightning.
As for the tranny, its the same tranny used in the Viper and also a Ford product you would all know, The 03+ Cobra. It can handle the power just fine.
You are right. It is the viper, camaro/vette/ cobra 6 speed. ANd has been putting up with this type of power for a long time. Also, I am VERY happy to see the ram come a manual transmission, the choice for real sports oriented vehicles.
2 things have to go on that truck, that stupid looking wing and the dual exhuast tips on one side, they should've went with the split duals in the rear. Although from what I've read doing it that way made it sound like the old vipers- a wound up vacum cleaner, but having the pipes close together had a better tone. But having a manual in a performance vehicle is definitely key!
um i dont know but as far as top speed i dont see any other truck but the Ford in the gueniss book of records for fastest production pick up
So im thinking Ford is still on top in my book
Don't worry, the dodge guys are working on calling guiness.
I think the record is 146mph???
The "Redesigned suspension" in the rear is an axle flip. nothing else special except the 22" rims and Pirelli tires.
Ford L- 380hp 13.7-1/4 5.2-0-60mph 146mph/top
$33,000 5000-7000 production
Ram - 505hp 13.8-1/4 5.2-0-60mph 150+
$40-45,000 2500-3000 production models
Ford SVT chief John Coletti has been waiting for competition like this.-Motor Trend-
It's pretty close but not what i would expect form that 505hp claim. Maybe the old blown 4.6 won't have to worry so much afterall. And just think, the new lightnings will definitely outperform the current ones so eat that dodge.
All numbers have been estimites this far, and as far as those go, you can bet Dodge is holding off with its real numbers. Just look at what Ford did to Nissan with the New F150. Also look what Dodge did when it released the Neon SRT4, they were claiming 215HP when it was really making 230HP at the wheels and they claimed 0-60 in "under 6 seconds" when these things are doing it in the low 5's. Since when has the Lightning had a blown 4.6? Its always been the 5.4.
I don't have a lightning. I have a regular old 4.6 in a 2wd extended cab truck. Couldn't exactly afford the lightning, plus what's the fun in that? Why should i have to spend that extra 7k just to get a truck that will drive up my insurance and really cause a lot of trouble in the streetracing department? Nobody expects an old extended cab to blow by their modified camaros.
I don't mean to be rude, i just like justifying myself.
I think the potential of the new 5.4 DOHC Lightning mill to be greater than anything yet put in a L truck. Gonna have the same internals as the current Cobras and those things a laying down some insane numbers. Plus the DOHC heads breathe better stock than even well ported 2V heads....building off some of the aftermarket advances already made with DOHC Cobras (cams, porting, and valve work) I think we'll see the new Lightnings pushing low 11's with basic bolt-ons and plenty of traction. Hennesy will proably build a "Venom" SRT-10 Ram and that will be interesting to see.....won't see positive displacement s/c's for that Ram but I guarantee ATI and Paxton will have kits out for it in no time. As with all things....it's about the $$$.
Is Ford going to stay with the DOHC setup or go with a three valve SOHC like on the new trucks? As for Dodge being supercharged, check out the artcile I posted above, It seems as though Dodge will be selling a "Rumble Bee" with a supercharged 5.7HEMI pushing 517HP, with 0-60 in the 5's and quarter mile times in the 13's.
I just found out some stuff about the SRT10 rear suspension setup and its a lot more than just an axle flip, I'll get the pictures and post them up for you, pretty trick design.
I can't wait to see if Ford does in fact use that AC intercooler spray system in the new L.
I think I will keep my Diesel at just over 400HP I get 20MPG and can drive it every day. Top speed is only 110 But I dought I will ever be there again lol not pulling my 4020 JD tractor with loader and cab around any way.

I love the Lightning! I have drove a few in my time working for the big 3 here in Detroit and no one can argue that it was, and is a bad a$$ truck. That being said, I do have to give Dodge respect for making the SRT10. They make as much, and more power from their truck WITHOUT a supercharger or a "cool mist" intercooler. Sure they have 2 more cylinders, but I prefer not having a supercharger. I'm sure most of you would not necessarily agree with me, but I like the unbelievable low end torque , seat of the pants feel from the SRT10 (yes I have driven one a few times, but they were early builds so they were sort of junky) that the Lightning just has not been able to get yet.
Originally posted by AG4.0 To me it seems that the SRT-10 is the direct competition to the Lightning, as it looks like they want to be the fastest truck, and I don't think that a N/A Hemi in a Dakota is going to even compete with the current "L." Gotta love all the competition these days. 500 HP in a 1/2 ton truck from the factory is crazy. That's almost double the highest numbers of just 5 years ago. What will we have in another 5 years?
When the Left Wing wackos find out about the muscle truck wars they will go ballistic and some democrat senator is sure to get on the bandwagon SO don't look for this to last long
I know!!! Let's stop all the whining about the "L" being a slow truck, and how dodge tears it up! Lets stick a 488 ci dodge v-10 in a ranger! For petes sake!

I'll volunteer my Ranger
I love the new Dodge trucks, and was tempted to go the Dakota route. I stayed Ford faithful but while shopping around, I learned to appreciate them a little more. They look better, unlike the bowties, which are getting uglier
