Performance V10 Cams

I am communicating with Chris Seleski at Competition Cams on a regrind of my cams. He says they will be able to do it, and they are already offering cams for the 5.4 and 4.6 V8s. I am going to port and polish the heads, put them on a flow bench, and see what lift the maximum flow occurs at to come up with a lift for the cams. Then I'll send them off for a regrind. It looks like .500 will be the max possible.

Steve at Crane has called me back, and I'll also be talking to him.

I asked Chris if there were any plans to manufacture cams for the V10, and he said "no", but if enough people would email them and show an interest, they'd start. I told him there may be some people here...

Anyway, if interested, please email them at compcams@compcams.com .

I would port the intake also since the runners are small for trq, this makes the engine sign off at approx 4500 rpms. Cam specs are the same lift as 5.4, duration? In a Muscle Mustang and Fast Fords Magazine recently there was a roller rocker install on a modular engine and netted 45 hp with this only.

Yes, I am going to port match the intake to the heads. Same size as the gasket.

I've tried to find cam specs on the 5.4 and the v10, but haven't come up with anything. I'm trying to get a Ford service CD - maybe it'll be on there.

I was considering roller rockers. I haven't looked real hard yet; do you know where the rockers you're referring to came from? I assume the ratio was different. Is this correct? 45 hp from a rocker arm change is incredible. When I used to do this years ago, we would expect 10-15.

Had some friends over during lunch and let them look at the truck. I installed the '03 OEM headlights, my grill is all chrome now, and I changed the parking lights. No, it's not like those rice burners - Everyone said it looked awesome. I'm still waiting for the valance to come in. I need to get a small dent out of the bumper, paint the valance, then it'll go on. I really need to start taking pictures of this as I go...

I fired it up for a couple of seconds, and EVERYONE agreed that it sounded great. From what I've read here, though, I'm afraid I'll lose it once the mufflers are on. Maybe I'll just run open headers

I don't get it. Same ratio rocker gives 45 hp? That much lost in friction alone?

How expensive?

Talked about it with the wife over dinner... She said "when is it going to stop? Can you just keep modifying these cars forever?"

Those rockers sound cool, but I'm gonna have to just stick with the cams and head / intake work for now - probably another throttle body. I told her that next year I want to make a nitrous or blower motor out of it. She wasn't amused.

A couple of years ago I would have never considered hoping up a tank like the F250 - I'd stick with the old carbureted big block Chevies (I know, I know), but learning about all this newfangled stuff is kinda fun. I think it'd be neat to get this thing into the 13s and still be able to pull the hauler. I've seen the PSDs do it. Pretty impressive.
