Missing numbers on vin

Missing numbers on vin
Im working on this engine and the vin is missing the second and third number. For example it is F___E-6015-AA-12. Why is this and what does this mean. Its not sanded off or whatever.

Where are you seeing this? Just above the oil pan rail of the block above starter? If not that's where it is.
If engine is original, the engine is called out in the vin of the data plate on door pillar.

There should be a certification lable on the door with the VIN. There may be a VIN in the lower part of the driver side windshield. And the VIN is stamped on the frame on the passenger side near where the alternator fits on the engine.
