Are you trying to polish the base model tips, or does yours have polished exhaust tips that you're trying to revive? I have base model tips and I'm going to try a heavy duty metal polish with a microfiber pad and elbow grease to see if I can get them looking better.

DON'T USE ANYTHING METAL (like you suggested above) -- You'll get what's call a metal to metal transference and that will make nasty rust stains on your tips. Instead use a 3M abrasive pad. Home Depot or such will have them. Green is the mildest. Red the most aggressive and gray or white is in between. I use these with car wash soap, followed by chrome polish and soft rag.

BTW don't use chrome or metal polish on PVD coated surfaces, as PVD is neither chrome nor metal. It will damage the finish which is a bit delicate anyway.
