Hi im new to the forum. I just bought a 01 7.3 4x4 with an auto trans. I want to bump up the hp to 330-350 and the tq to 600-650 roughly. the stock exhaust is in good shape. I'm thinking of copying the banks stinger bundle with other brands of parts to save money or i'm also thinking of going with a hydra tuner with and leaving the stock exhaust for now. Any thoughts on the best route? Also thinking of a banks trans command or a john wood valve body for trans both are about the same price i guess the banks would be a much cheaper install though. Thanks in advance.
Just forget all high dollar Banks stuff.
All tranny adjustments can be done with Hydra.(pressures, shift points,TC lockup)
3disc billet low stall converter is good upgrade, factory single disc converter starts to slip with hot tune and stock AD injectors.
As for the injectors, stock 140cc ADs maxes out somewhere around 300hp
How did you come to your target numbers?
What is your desired use for the truck?
I'd start with addressing all maintenance (coolant is a big deal on powerstrokes) and runnability issues, EGT guage, Hydra w/ stock tunes, billet wheel and a BTS or JW valve body.
See what you think. If it's stock and 21 years old, you'll be surprised.
If your towing I'd add a 4" turbo back exhaust, 6.0 trans cooler and trans temp guage. Change all fluids. Reevaluate HP/TQ desires and go from there.
This is a slippery slope ”New Guy Brett”. There is a very real affliction, that is well documented right here in these pages, that as yet has no cure. I speak of course of PMS(Powerstroke Modification Syndrome). Tread carefully you could loose your significant other, possibly your sanity, you will loose some ”0's” on the bank statement. You have been warned ”New Guy Brett”, and yeah Hydra definitely the best bang for your buck. Throw in some gauges, an OBD2 dongle, and Forscan app and you're golden. Until you catch it.
I recently borrowed a friends 07 duramax and it was super nice to drive. So i based my numbers off that(well a little lower don't want to go too crazy). Yes i know about basic maintenance it's all being taken care of. The truck gas pretty low k as well. No pms here just want to up the power for towing and that will be the end of the power mods no money pit for me other then the cost of fuel.

I've driven an 07 DMax as well....and the Allison makes the comparison kinda unfair to the 4R100.
I used to drive an LBZ Duramax for work. To be honest, absolutely no comparison to the 7.3! That truck was a hot rod compared to my F250! I just have a crap-tastic Hypertech that came with my truck, and even that dinosaur of a tuner makes a significant difference in throttle response, etc in the 7.3. It is really an unfair comparison between the 7.3 and any Duramax, especially the LBZ. Aluminum heads, higher compression, 4 valves per cylinder, much better turbocharger technology...they are in completely separate leagues. And the 6 speed Allison is a game changer as well!
