1972 e-200 headlights
my headlights were weak for a while, in early November they stopped working. They had been intermittently not turning on for about a month, one night they stopped working just out of town while there was a rainstorm (my wiper linkage broke and when I had the hood open the rain picked up for a minute and got things wet I guess?)- luckily I keep a pad and sleeping bag in here so I was able to sleep until morning. They came on in the morning and I was able to make it back to Brooklyn. The last week they worked, I was in upstate NY on a film shoot. They stopped working right before sundown one night, worked the next morning and I think for another day or two. One night we were driving to a location and it started raining and my headlights got super dim, I could hardly see anything. Again, luckily I was in a small town and my running lights are solid so you could see some semblance of a vehicle on the road.
Ive tried replacing the bulbs, headlight switch and dimmer switch. When I tried jumping the power to headlights off the wire cluster popping out of the switch nothing happened, so trying to figure out what to check next. I noticed when I switch to high-beams the dash indicator doesn’t come on, so maybe something’s shot leading up to the dimmer switch?
Admittedly I’m pretty inexperienced with a lot of electrical stuff and find myself looking for the wrong solutions. If I had time space money I’d want to redo all the wiring (a lot of it looks like it was repaired on a need basis with whatever wires were available), but that’s not something I can manage right now.
