I have the same 2013 3.5 ecoboost 85,000 miles ; around here in West PA same hilly terrain . Average is 11 MPG in the winter using 91 octane . Was 12 until I put A/T tires on it.
I have a 2011 SCrew with the EcoBoost, 115K miles.I'm in South/Central PA (Hilly) and average 17 MPG's, just came back from a 2,000 mile trip South and averaged 19 MPG.
If your truck calls for 87 Octane, generally running premium does NOT improve short term fuel economy.
My manual says that 87 is good for normal driving, and premium is better for towing. I was just wondering if I might see better economy using premium all the time. Maybe I'll try it for a month or two, and just see how it goes. Honestly, I don't drive that much, so it's not like it's a huge difference for me.
i set my trip [a] counter it has fuel use on it. Was showing me 19mpg and amount of fuel used. The other one showed 13.9 mpg. Havent went far enough to do the math to see what one is wrong. Probably never drive it long enough to ever know. Try your trip counter less depressing and might be closer to correct. .
I get just what Dave, above, stated. My truck is maintained quite well by myself. I do know a person with a 2012 that is the same also. Premium won't do squat for mileage. If you remember the difference between premium and 87 regular is the octane you know that it won't deliver more mileage. Perhaps premium used towing "heavy" might "help" preclude some detonation.

When I had a turbo VW, I did get better fuel economy on premium vs regular, but it also wanted premium.
My F150 manual says that premium is better while towing, and I frequently tow a heavy trailer, so I just run premium in it now. Looking at my fuel economy chart, it seems maybe I do get better economy out of the premium, but it's not much.
Hey folks, first of all I'm no mechanic, but my gas mileage is terrible. My 2013 3.5 eco, with 38,000 original miles is running in the 10 mpg range. There is no check engine, or anything else that shows there is anything wrong. I have even had it checked for free wheeling issues. No one has found anything, and the truck runs fine. Like I said 38,000 original miles and running in the 10 mpg range, but mostly stop and go around town, and somewhat hilly conditions as I live in East Tennessee. Is this normal? Mas, cleaned, and new air filter last weekend. Any advice would help, especially since gas is close to 5$ gallon. Thanks.
Stop & Go with inclines....well, that pretty much explains it....little engine....twin turbos + lots of fuel to make it run...........
Stock wheels and tires and no lift? Highway or city?
Tape a raw egg to the bottom of your right foot and drive that way for a week and see if it helps. This engine is Eco OR Boost, so if you are using all the power, the mileage sucks.
