4wd not engaging

4wd not engaging
My 02 excursion sets more than its driven and does not want to shift into 3wd. Have tried different motion stuff and on/off stuff with no success. What do I need to pull off to fix it. I know where the changer is and would like to know about what to do to it.

Thanks for reminding me. I just started it, put it in 4wd and checked the front driveshaft, it was locked in so it has to be a hub problem. Since I do not have manual hubs, guess I am going to have to replace the autos with manuals.

Your factory auto hubs can be turned from AUTO to LOCK.

There is so much to check for free before blowing money on aftermarket hubs...
Is the light coming on the dash indicating the transfer case actually shifted to 4x4 and is turning the front drive shaft?

It is fairly simple to service the factory hubs with the procedure linked below. I have 180k on my '05 and they still work fine. I do this roughly once a year. ALso checek thte tech folder for info.
