guys it would be a portable, would be sitting in the back of my truck while the TT was connected..... I aint buyin no HONDA.. refuse to pay 3X what all the other respectable companies charge.. Where I camp there are 250cc two stroke, and 650/660cc four stroke enines with no decible restrictions running 24 hours of the day!! yes even at 4am.!! SAND DUNES!! so noise is not an issue... ive looked at Home Depot.. etc.. they sell brands like Porter Cable.. Portable Electric..etc.. sell 3k watts for like $400 and 5k watts for mid$700... are these new models up to par even though there half to a third as much as honda/yamahas????
please help.. will a 3000watt run my TV, fridge and AC at the same time????
thanks

Thumbs up Generators.

One thing that you didn't mention is the noise. The Honda is much quiter than the others with exception of the Onan. Somthing else to ponder on is the ability of the Honda to be able to link a couple of them togther if really needed. If ya really want to tee off the camping neighbors then just run a loun or noisy generator, ya will hear about it.

Jetjock,go with at least a 5000 watt, anything less will still power it but fuel consumption will kill you.Get a 8 or ten horse engine, that way anything extra you want to power[its always more than planned] can be done easily.Coffee pots take a lot of power, microwaves too.Plus if you need one at home, a little one wont cut it.I have 3 generaters, coleman 1500,generac 4000, devilbis 5000.

generator

I have a 4000 watt Generac and it does everything you are asking about. I haul it in the back of my truck and unload it when I get to where I am going. The Generac is very quite, has a 4 gallon gas tank so it will run for about 13 hours at 1/2 load. Has a 12vdc output also if you ever need to charge a battery. The unit weighs about 100 lbs and you can get them for around $600.00.
I have had mine for years and it has been trouble free.

I have a 2500 watt Honda. It's not one of the EU models, but one of the older standard types. My generator sips fuel compared to the generac models. When Isabel hit my parents used mine and only had to fill the tank once every 4-5 hours running 2 fridges. Down the street they had to fill theirs every hour or so. I would love to have one of the new Honda EU3000, but they are so expensive.

I would say 2500 should be the smallest you should get. It runs the A/C just fine, but I turn it off when I use the microwave. Do the math and add up the equipment you want to run and buy accordingly.

generator

As far as fuel usage goes, most of the camping I do is in the Southern California deserts. Outside temps are VERY high. The air conditioner in the trailer runs all day and all night. I fill the generator up in the morning and top it off before I go to bed. It does get much better than that.
As far as a 2500 watt.... your A/C will draw about 1500 while running and can hit 2000 to 2500 on start up. That doesn't leave much. With my 4000 watt I can run the A/C, lights, Hair dryer (the wife likes comfort) all at the same time or turn the hair dryer off and the microwave on.

Check out some of the equipment rental companies in your area. I got a great deal on Makita 4KW with less than 10 hours on it. Great gas consumption, quiet and does 12V, 110/220. Paid a little less than a thousand. Not quite as quiet as the $3000.00 Honda But pretty close.

Add up all the WATTS you think you'll use, add 1000 more to that and then get the best one you can afford that is over that number.

Hard to wrong with that thinkin'...

Thats exactly what I have for my fiver. It is nice. electric start makes it really nice. I run a air compresor plus everything else on the trailer. I got it at home depot. most of those cheeper ones dont have electric start and they have cheeper motors that dont last as long and are very loud. the Generac isnt too loud compared to the cheep ones.
