Hello all hope this find you well. I'm looking to try and get some information on an old F600 dump truck. I believe it is a 1973 model or at least that is the date on the engine sticker. I have the vin number and was wondering if someone could decode it for me and tell me the year and help me with a part number for a starter. The starter wont turn off and I've changed the solenoid and traced all the wires to the key switch everything seems fine but the starter wont disengage.

Welcome to FTE! I moved you here as this is the land of the F600 and other Large Trucks.
I think your starter issue is still wiring, but I'll get you some info on the starter asap. It will interchange with the starters for FEs in cars and pickups.
F60 = F600 gas 4x2
D = 330 2V HD FT gas V8
V = Kentucky Truck Plant
T41449 = 1974 numerical series
158 = 158 inch wheelbase
No color code, color probably part of the Special Order
F602 = F600 gas 4x2, 19,200 lbs GVWR
4 8 = I do not have the complete upholstery info, but this appears to be a standard cab
A = New Process model 435 four speed transmission
F32
F3 = Eaton model 15201 two speed rear axle, 15,000 lbs capacity, 6.33/8.81 ratios
2 = Ford 5,500 lb capacity front axle without power steering
212792
21 = Atlanta District Code
2792 = Special Order number. Only the color code is missing, so that might be the special order, or it could be something else.
I hate to do this to you, but slug your way through this thread, including the links to other threads. Almost everything you will ever need to know on the subject. OK, well, some of what you need....
I was afraid I posted in the wrong spot! Thank you for moving it and all your info!! That has been a huge help!! Ill slug my way through that and see if I can come up with anything to try. Thank you so much!
The problem is not the starter, sounds like the solenoid is wired wrong
Does the starter engage as soon as you connect the battery cables or as soon as you turn the key to the on position
Thats the weird thing. Sometimes it has no issues and sometimes it does. This latest time I tried to start it hooked the battery up nothing happened hit the key starter engaged then got hung up and now its constantly turning as soon as you hook the battery up. The key can be completely out of the switch and it will continue to turnover.
I don't have a drawing but it's fairly simple
With the small post facing you the battery hot cable and any chassis wiring connects to the large stud on the left, the cable going to the starter connects to the large stud on the right by it's self.
The small post on the left should be marked with a S, the start wire connects to that post, you can use a test light or meter to check the wire but it should only have power when the key is in the start position
The other small post on the right should be marked with a I, that is the ignition feed back that sends power to the coil when the key is in the start position
So after more investigation I found that with the key out of switch the ignition side of solenoid will sometimes be hot. Sometimes not. Also the ignition coil will be on the same time. Sometimes that side of solenoid won’t be hot. So I’m going to replace it and see what happens. I’ve attached a pic of the wiring i have and also another pic. I assume that some sort of control box. It will click when the ignition side of the solenoid is hot as well. I’m assuming the coil and that regulator box are attached to that brown wire on the solenoid.
