When I get a chance, I'm going to pull mine and check it. I have MAF sensor cleaner. I'll use that. I'll do before and after pics.

Here's a picture of mine at 236k miles. I removed it ~100k miles ago and it essentially looked the same with a thin coating of soot over it.

I wouldn't call it a lot, but it does has some and more importantly it still functions. As a matter of fact, how you see it in the picture is how exactly I reinstalled it back into the manifold. I'm sure it will go another easy 250k miles.

I checked mine today at 87474 miles. The hole in the middle was about completely covered with soot. I cleaned it with MAF sensor cleaner.

I'll go to my phone now to post the pics.

The location of the MAP sensor on top of the intake manifold. A 7mm head on the securing bolt.

That sum beyotch was dirty.

Cleaned.

Is it safe to scrape the soot off the bottom? Or is contact cleaner the only thing that is needed?

I'm willing to bet mine is caked, I'm getting crappy mileage towing my camper. Couple years ago I was getting 10-11mpg pulling 8k now it's 9-10mpg with the same load.

I wouldn't scrape it out...there's probably some type of diaphragm at the bottom and don't know how strong it is against accidental scraping.

I said the same thing... Looks like that spacer might be warranted for use... I mean it's not hard to pull and clean but might keep it cleaner longer.

I used a plastic hose from a brake cleaner can real gentle along the bottom... real gentle but it was also filled with the MAF cleaner. It took multiple sprays to get it clean.

If done, I wouldn't do it hard. Real gentle and filled with MAF cleaner with ZERO down pressure.

I'm surprised your sensor was sooted up, but I'm sure it doesn't need a large path to measure air pressure. Do you run a fuel additive and if so what brand?

Pulled mine over the weekend. Very small amount soot, surprisingly clean to be honest. Sprayed it off with MAF cleaner since I already had it and reinstalled. Didn’t bother taking a pic. 94,500 miles, no additives on a normal basis, all stock. 70/30 to 50/50 mix of #2 to #1 diesel in the winter. Still no idea why I regen so frequently (it has been like that since new) but that is a different topic.
