2006 f350 6.0. currently have a #5 stuck injector Wich is making my truck blow out white ish blue smoke. I want to rebuild my injector harnes due to it being old and since I'll have it off anyways. Does anyone know what guages the wire is for the harness, I have looked everywhere and can't find it. Ik I can just pull I wire and check it but I'd like to buy my stuff before I start pulling everything.
I would suggest that it would be quicker, easier, and much less headache to just purchase a new wiring harness, either OEM from Ford or through someone like Painless (if they build it, I'm not sure). If you are worried about the wires being old, remember that those plastic connectors and rubber seals have been basically exposed to the elements and countless heat/cold soak cycles for 16 years...they are going to be brittle and prone to breaking. You also have to contend with making sure your wires lengths are precise to factory, or you can end up with electrical issues.
Yes I understand it's easier to just buy a new harnes but I have a decent electrical background and love making harnesses, I have the tools I need and also have already re wired my injector plugs, it's easy and I can build/fix them faster than they could ship me one, a decently made harnes probably run me 100-300 when I can re build it for cheaper
If I was going to buy a new harness I'll just buy it directly from my ford parts dealer near me when I go buy a new injector for it
I think what FiveO is trying to say is that for $200, for a complete harness, it's not WORTH it to make your own. I don't know how much wire it'll take, but let's assume you've got at least $50 in wire. Most rates for doing ANYTHING in private business is at least $50/hour, so that leaves you with 3 hours to tear down and reassemble the new harness to break even. I doubt you could tear down and reassemble the entire harness in 3 hours, more likely it would take a weekend. An entire weekend is worth a LOT more than $150 to me.
That said, if you're dead set on rebuilding this yourself, I think somewhere on this site are the wiring schematics for pretty much every part of these trucks. Those schematics will tell you what color and gage wires you'll need if you want to match factory. Otherwise you could just pick whatever colors you want and run with it.
