Roof molding repair

Has anyone repaired these? Can I just pull them up, clean up the rust and paint?

You dig them out, clean the area, prime and lay in a bead of the correct material.

Not sure exactly what the material is called but 3M makes it. I just had this done and roof repainted on my work truck. You might try calling a local body shop, they may be willing to help you out.

The stuff in the roof channel is a self leveling seam sealer. I do believe it's made by 3m. You have to thoroughly clean the channel, park the truck on level ground, damn the perimeter of the channel with tape or putty and then let the sealer perform its magic

Any reason to not fill this channel flush to prevent standing water in the first place? Or use bondo vs seam sealer?

I would imgine there is a fair amount of flex that can happen in those areas....not sure body filler is the solution over seam sealer.

Someone here, maybe more than one, cleaned their channels out then bedlined the roof with no seam sealer. I’m probably gonna do the same once it’s warmer out

I think if you head over to the Excursion forum, you have better luck finding the fix, as all Ex's have this.

I will check out the ex forum. Local shops are all booked for 2-3 weeks.
