I have the Banks iDash Data Monster. I’m still learning about it though and is the first and only monitor I have ever used, so I can’t give comparisons. I do like it though. It’s pretty simple to set up and use and there are tons of parameters that can be monitored… I just need to learn what many of them are and what the normal readings for all the different parameters are.
I will also add, I liked that the Data Monster allows me to record tons of data, however, mine is mounted near my knee and the Micro SD card loads from the front and sticks way out… I’m afraid I’ll hit it with my knee and break it off, so I don’t leave the card inserted… so I can’t actually record the data. If you mount the iDash up on the dash it likely isn’t an issue though. Also, the Data Monster is significantly more expensive than the regular iDash…
I will also add that I ordered the Banks mount for $45… it’s cheap garbage. It should have been $6… I would look elsewhere for mounts considering the price they ask for theirs.
I would eventually like to mount it in the pillar like the photo above. I don’t like the window mounts because so many seem to have that glue on them now which in my experience doesn’t fare well in constant hot temps… it was a mess. Plus it gets in the way when putting my windshield visor up. I have seen some trims that fit around the vents with a cup molded into them too that look nice. For now though, I’m going to get my use out of this crappy $45 mount… lol.
Someday I’d like to have an iDash for monitoring while driving but for now I do have Forscan which can do monitoring if you bring your laptop along. Forscan can obviously make configuration changes and clear any DTCs. The cost is minimal since you only need to buy the OBD adapter. Forscan recommends the OBDlink EX and I do too as it works flawlessly.

Can you download an app onto a tablet and use a OBD wifi connector?

Sure, they have Forscan lite available for IOS and Android. You can't do programming with the lite versions though. But that would be an option for a scangauge and DTC clearing tool. The OBDLink MX+ bluetooth adapter is recommended for that.
