How do I tell if I have the 95-amp or 130 alternator?
I removed the entire AC system and need to get a new drive belt accordingly. There are 2 "No AC" drive belt variants - with 130 amp or with 95 amp alternator.
How do I determine what I have ?
Some of the older ones had the amp rating stamped on the housing near the pivot bolt
Most of the newer style has no amperage stamp. Then it is the size (matters) (how many windings and how big the case is)
That is the first question out of the parts mans mouth (what amp alternator)
The bigger alternator will require a longer belt
Used to just guess at the ford parts counter and then expect the wrong parts
You can make an educated guess by examining what options the vehicle has and now big the main battery wire to the alternator is
Good luck, Paul
I believe OEM is only 95amps for the I6, but you can upgrade all the way to 200amps if I'm not mistaken, like if you're going to install a huge sound system with like a 2000 watt amp...Just saying.. this might help ya decide https://www.fordoemdepot.com/v-1992-...al--alternator
The truck is made for your alternator
If you upgrade the alternator update the harness too or it will melt the charge wire
Just add another 6 or so gauge wire from the battery to the alt
