I was going to replace the leaky seal on my 94 and found the split ring that holds it in was in crooked and caused the seal to fail and also wore a groove in the sector shaft so I had to replace the steering gear unit. Just make sure yours dosen't have the same condition. once you remove the snap ring the seal should slip out . You may have to turn the steering wheel back and forth to get it to fall out.
Update, tried the above (letting the fluid push the seal out) it did not work! Had to remove the two bolts out of the top and pull the gear out and use my fingers to pull the seal out!
Now one of you shoulda told me that the first ring that came out was not the seal! I replased the washer, thinking it was the seal, put it back togather and it still leaked!
Then I had to take it back apart and replace the seal. That time it sealed, no leaks!
Too bad the pump went bad while I was tring to have it push out the seal, it was either me running it without fluid to long or the tranny fluid I used when I ran outta stearing fluid!
Anyways all is good now and it was alot cheeper than buying a new gear box, thanx for all the help guys!
