I'm trying to install a brand new factory cap on my L99 tailgate.
I removed the old one 12 weeks ago before the truck went to the body shop.
It seems that I had to pry it off with a screwdriver and it seems that I may need to use a soft rubber mallet to get the new one the rest of the way on.
I have it lined up perfectly and all the tabs and the 3 pegs are all through the sheet metal - I just don't want to force it and screw up brand new paint or the cap itself.
Any suggestions? Thanks!!
I'm glad I happened upon this thread, my tailgate cap was damaged when I drug a dead bull out of the bed and is in sorry shape. My truck is an early 2000 F250 with a chrome cap. Where can I run across a new one that won't cost me an arm and a leg, it doesn't have to be chrome ?
I like that price better. I have been looking at this one to replace mine (it got ripped out in the wind one day). I have a rollout bed cover that is a pretty tight fit with the tailgate so I was worried this metal one would prevent the tailgate from closing.
