Ac issues!

I have an 05 excursion and I recently got the ac compressor fixed but I’ve got a new problem. I have the automatic climate control and when I put it at 60 super cold air and that’s fine but anything above that and it’s goes when idle and when driving 100. Any ideas?

Can you clarify what you mean by this statement? Does it stop cooling? Stop blowing air? Does the heater work?

so from what I’ve tested with my thermometer when on 60 at idle cools just fine but if I set it to anything above such as 65 it stop cools and jumps up to higher temps and it seems like 65 to 90 is all one setting since it sits at about 90 and peaking at 100 or so when driving. With temps like that I’d say the heater definitely works. I can grab some photos later though!

So, 60 degrees at the vent? Or just on the control panel? What is ambient temp (Outside)?

It sounds like the blend function is weirding out on you, or your low on refrigerant and it can't stay cold?

With the AC off, does the temp output perform as expected when cycling hot to cold (with the truck warmed up)?

so for the temp yesterday at night it was about 70 outside and with the climate control at 60 the vent was putting at 45 to about 50 degree air, with the control at anything else it goes up, for example when I put it at 65 it went up to 74 which I believe was about ambient temps outside at the time and set at 70 it didn’t change it only changed to 90 or so when I turned up the heat . Also I just got the ac compressor repaired on the 3rd so I really hope it isn’t low on refrigerant but I doubt it since it hold super cold when set to 60 all day so I’m honestly not sure.

Ill have to test it with the ac button off in a little to see what happens then. I’ll post some some photos when I get the chance when I get on the road.

So I’ve finally gotten to test it on the road and I’ve found some interesting things. At idle the ac reads about the same from 60-69 at around 50 or below but 70 changes it to be at the 80s and climbing when I had taken the photo. When driving setting it to 60 while going 45 and it still read at the 50s and dropping but anything above 60 at 45 made it go up to the 80s and climbing.

69 setting at idle and it was dropping after the photo was taken

60 setting at idle

90 with ac off, climbed to 100 or so then I turned ac on again

65 at 45 mph, climbed after too

70 at idle and it climbed after

60 at 45 mph and it held pretty steady at that point dropping a little bit after

For starters, your temp deltas (differences) seem to be a bit low. Do you know how much refrigerant was put in after the compressor was changed?
I think superduties are 2.5#, but there is usually a sticker under the hood that says exactly how much.

For troubleshooting purposes I think you should separate this into 2 problems.
1 - AC performance
2 - Blend Door operation

Those are two independent systems but they are becoming muddled by trying to diagnose the performance of both together.

After testing the blend (temp) performance with the AC off you might be able to rule out blend door problems.

For now, focus on just AC performance with the climate control set to cold (60 or low) and AC on.

I’m not sure how much refrigerant they put in my system but it might be on the bill itself, as for ac performance on it lowest setting (60) it blows cold no matter what according to my thermometer. I’ve seen it go down to the low 40’s sometimes but usually it stays in the 50’s.

I’ve got the rear ac so it says I need a 4lb 4oz charge and the receipt says I got 4.25 in Freon so I’d assume they put the right amount for me
