I read on here that the auto 4x4 for ford sucks. I was wondering if it was the push button 4x4 or what? My bronco has the manual transfer case but auto hubs, is this bad? Or is it just the push button 4x4 (don’t know if the bronco ever came with that option) that sucks?
the auto hubs are very UNreliable. you can change them out for about 75.00 dollars. if you have three bolts on your auto hubs you will need the conversion kit. if you have 5 or 6 bolts you dont need the kits. it is a simple change out and should take all of about 1 hour. as for the push button transfer case , i havent had any trouble with mine, but i did have trouble with the auto hubs.
yea, the auto hubs are junk, but no worse theny anyone elses, or dodge/jeeps wonderfull vaccum activated junk box four wheel drive. either transfer case is decent. the manual t-case is foolproof, and the electronics arnt bad, mine works fine with 115,000 on it.
I heard about the problems with the auto hubs so I swapped mine to manuals right after I bought it. So far I have 153K on the clock with no problems from the push button t-case.
I have to agree with everything above. I have the electric shift tcase and it's OK. The auto hubs got scrapped after one wheeling trip when they kept disengaging when I would shift from Reverse to Drive trying to get out of a mud pit. The hub swap is very easy and there are many good tech write ups on it all over the net.
I have the automatic hubs and electric tranfer case any one change out both manual transfer case and manual hubs?can this be done ? my 1992 bronco has a window for a lever what else needs to be done wiring wise . mine quit working all together no light no clicking? thanks all replies appreciated--TR
I've swapped to manual hubs, and it was pretty simple. I still have the push button t-case though. I saw this out on the forum tonight. Hope it is of use. Good Luck!
