Starting Tuesday of next week, I will be volunteering at a local elementary school, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday tutoring 2nd, 3rd graders in reading. It gets me out of the apartment 3 days a week for two hours a day. First hour is a 2nd grade class, and second hour a 3rd grade class. Also, I have volunteered to help the 5th, and 6th grade Sunday school class at my church. I have always loved helping kids and being a positive role model for them. I used to volunteer about 6 years ago with my then churches after school program, and I have decided to get out of the apartment for a while and help again. Should be rewarding for all involved.
I don't know who will need who more, me or the kids, but I am glad to get back into it and be able to help again.

Kids need you more than you know. Kids need everyone. Parents can't do it alone. The entire community raises children. I think back to when I was a kid. My parents did everything that they could. But I still had teachers, coaches, other people in the community. They all influenced everything that I did, and the choices that I learned to make. Even the members of the community who were a bad influence, were good. I was exposed to bad decision making as a child. That taught me not to make those choices in life for myself.
As the World turns. The curse has struck again. Thursday, I ordered groceries to be delivered yesterday by Walmart. As soon as I complete the order, I see it was changed to pick up. I ordered delivery because it was supposed to rain yesterday. it did, off and on, but lucky for me it was only a light sprinkle when I went to pick up the groceries. I took the Dodge, and had them put the groceries in the back seat, and then when I got home, I brought the scooter out to help bring them in. One trip instead of three works for me. Another reason I was glad the rain had not really started yet. Anyway, two of my items were to be delivered as the nearby store was out of stock. One item, chocolate chip Pop Tarts, was to arrive yesterday by an employee from another store. The other is scheduled to arrive today by Fed Ex. The item yesterday was "delivered" at 8:46pm. They even showed a pic of the house it was delivered to. I clicked on their Help Center button and told them the item was not received. The automated response was "Wait two days and contact us after 8pm in case your item does show up" When they asked for feedback, I gave them one star and told them the item was delivered to a house and I live in an apartment. The house in the photo does not look familiar, so I don't have a clue where it is. It only cost $4.08 and food stamps paid for it, but that is not the point. The other item is peach cobbler Pop Tarts which I have never heard of before and thought I would try them out. They are scheduled to arrive today. We will see if the Fed Ex driver is smarter than the Walmart partner driver.
On another note. The Dodge was near empty in gas, so I decided to stop at the nearby Kwik Mart gas station. Before Putin attacked Ukraine, they had kept their gas price at $4.16 a gallon. Soon after that, it went up to $4.26 a gallon. Thursday it was $4.50 a gallon, and yesterday it was up to $4.70 a gallon. In one week's, time it has gone up three times, I am so glad I don't drive my vehicles that much. I just happened to glance at the oil change sticker on the windshield and the mileage to get another oil change is still 4,000 miles away. So, in ten months, I have only put two thousand miles on the car, and six hundred of that came when we drove it home from Oregon. The Ranger is the same way, about two thousand miles on it since January of 2021. I take the electric scooter most the time. That helps a lot.
