Everything you wanted to know about converting to an electric pump but were afraid to ask
Works like a champ. My truck often sits for days or weeks, and the fuel evaporates from the carb bowl. I run the pump for a few seconds before hitting the starter, and she fires right up every time.
You can put the pump up front like you initially wanted to and it would probably work. But on a hot day the fuel likes to vaporize in the hot engine compartment, so it may have some trouble pumping in certain conditions.
You can put the pump toward the rear like you were thinking around the switching valve. That would put it in a cooler spot where it could pump cooler fuel up front into the hot engine compartment.
You do have the problem of fuel possibly going into the engine pumping through the mechanical pump, but if you put the pump on a momentary button, that would reduce that problem since it would not be pumping all the time. The momentary button would also eliminate the need for any safety devices, since it would not be running all the time.
and like i say,, it;s just a primer , not a main pump,, I'm only going to have a button you press for a few seconds.. I studied it, and it's not gonna be difficult at all for me.
I just wanted to get a few opnions
I appreciate them all..
when it's done being used, i shut off the fuel so the carb will go dry and not have stale fuel sitting in it..
thanks..
I do notice too, on those facet block looking pumps, you can tell when the carb is full, you'll hear the ticking noises start to labor and slow down, due to the float closing..
