Engine Temperature displayed by Numbers on Information Cluster

Engine Temperature displayed by Numbers on Information Cluster
I was towing, in high heat on a grade with AC on, a digital displayed of a numbered (ex 195) temperature appeared on the Information Cluster. The number changed increasingly, then it decreased and then it disappeared. There were no messages or warning displays associated with it. I have never have seen this before.
Have any of you experienced this? Is this a new addition to the F250 or as it always been there? There is nothing in the manual. I have at least 30,000 miles of towing with no change in setup, but episode mentioned is the only July trip.

It is normal for the number to be displayed as the gauge starts to move north of center.
This should be accompanied by the clutch fan kicking on high (sounds like an airplane) to cool it down. Fairly rapid cooling.
