Ok, when filling up yesterday, the pump cliked off and gas started leaking out from under my truck. It leaked a little, then stopped, so i got under there and looked and sure enough theres a crack on where the main line hooks up to the fuel door. Its about 1 inch and a half long and runs perpendicular with the hose clamp that holds the line onto the gas door. it runs right up to the clamp also.
Is there any way to patch this up permanantly? or do i have to get a new line. And if i get a new line, how big of a PITA is it to put on? I am thinking of addding a body lift, so i might be able to do it then if i have to lift up the bed a little
Usually any fuel tank repair is 3 times the work, but here goes.
If your line is plastic then try this. Get a peice of hard plastic from something. Cut it up into small shreds. Fill a glass jar with 1/4 oz. of MEK (Methyl Ethyl Keytone). Add the shreds of platic to the MEK slowly mixing it as you go. The goal is a plastic paste used to "weld" the plastic and patch it up. spread some clean MEK on the crack to soften it. When the surface is ready apply the plastic paste and seal it up well. then just let it dry. It probably won't look pretty, but it will do the trick.
THe crack is on the line that hookes up to the thing your gas cap connects to on the inside of the body, you have to stick your head under the truck to see it. and its a rubber hose, i was thinkin about using some jb kwick weld, but i didnt know if the gas would have any long term effects on it and how well it would hold up. Because my gas mileage droped from almost 15 to about 12 mpg
