Weird thing happened on my way home from my cabin today. Was on a highway driving 70 mph for about 100 miles and my instantaneous mpg gauge was hovering around the 19.5 mpg bar. At one point I looked and I could see I no longer was averaging 19.5 as the meter was far below the average speed mark on the gauge. It remained there for about 15 miles so I hit the reset and let it average out again. 13.2 mpg. It was like a regen happened but all along the dpf% remained at 0%. Still is. Anyway I passed through a small town with a couple lights, jumped back on the interstate and my average the rest of the trip was back at ~ 19 mpg.
Can’t quite figure out what happened as I was getting bad mileage for about 20 miles on the drive. Any ideas?
You can be in regen with zero showing on the DPF. Ford forces the system to go into regen at the 500 mile mark regardless of the soot load in the DPF. Yes, even if you have been passively regenerating from high exhaust gas temperatures from towing or whatever. If you look in your manual, this is fully explained. An active regen will occur normally between 100 and 500 miles. The manual states that if you make it to the 500 mile regen, your active regen will be relatively brief.
