I combed through the search and couldnt find my answer so I apologize if this is a repost.
How do I confirm which axle/gear oil I need and how do I know if I need friction modifier? My van is a 2013.
Also, Ive changed diff fluid a ton of times before but always on cars with drain plugs, which this does not have. I was planning to pump out and then back in, any issues with this?
If you look closely at the diff you can find the info stamped on it on a plate or near the housing iirc. Your door tag may also give you the info ( but the results on the door code are weird and not always right cause we don't have good lists of door codes from all the years). On the axle if it is a Dyna it should have a code that looks like a date called the BOM code example where code is. You likely have a dyna 60 of some type. Once you find that code you can look it up to get info. I used https://www.axlebuilder.com/dana_60_bom.html to find mine.
for mine. but for my first change I just pumped it out the fill hole and added new fluid. ( it was on to tight for me to remove in the limited setting I worked on it at, so postponed the reusable gasket ) I used amsoil 75w90 with out any additive, my dif was a non lsd style.
