I know this topic has been posted many times, but i need a few quick answers.
My rear window on my '92 is stuck in the up position. When i work the switches i can hear the motor run. I assume it needs a new window motor gear kit. Can this be done with the tailgate closed and the window in the up position? If not, please tell me what I should do. Thanks
When i've changed the gear kit, i've always had the tailgate in the open position with the window out (up) suported. I'm not sure that you would have the room to work on it from inside the bronco because your arm not having an extra joint before the elbow.......
Try to manually lower the window with someone operating the switch.
When you disengage the motor, the window will fall anyway. like 3broncocrazy said, manually open the window, open the tailgate, and then do the gear repair. It's almost definately the gear (under $15 at the auto parts). Good luck.
My window works fine but the Defrost doesnt... Any Ideas on what to check first and is the is a comon problem?? The wires seem to be OK going into the tailgate, and the switch lights up on the dash. thanks for the help. Also I have to replace the Latch on the Passenger side of the Tail gate. It doesnt latch. I got one at the junk yard and it was easy to get out without the window in there. Any good Ideas on how to do it with the window in so I dont have to adjust it after Im done?
When you get the window down...as slightly mentioned before...SUPPORT THE GLASS....or you will wind up with alot of little glass pieces under the tailgate.(looks purty but sucks otherwise) if you cant get the window to drop, try removing the access panel on the inside of the gate, and getting it to drop from there...but once again, as mentioned above...have someone else there to make sure the glass doesnt drop and shatter.
As for the rear defrost, sounds like the heat tape going across the glass has a break in it. Look at it real close and you will prolly find the break. Local parts stores usually sell a repair kit for defrost systems. Comes with a little mettalic heat tape to cross the break to complete the pattern on the glass.
I have a 90 model bronco, and i have the same rear window problem. I can turn the key or push the button and all i hear is the motor and no window moving. How hard is the gears to replace, and what do i ask for at the auto parts place. What do i need to support the glass after i have the gate down while replacing the gears? Thanks and any help will be wonderful.
90EBBronco, It is an easy fix just takes some time. One other thing, remember that the regulator is under tension when the arms are not in the full up position. I have the scars to prove it!
I have an 88 Bronco and have replaced the window gear and it was not too hard. If you go to the dealership and ask for the gear they will give you a new updated version that is supposed to be better and not break evety other month! Also at the same time you go to get the gear ask for the plastic window washers.(I think that is what they are called?) Drop the tailgate and push in the two hooks on each side and that will enable the motor to work with the key. Pull the window out all the way and support it or it will break! Wher the regulator hooks to the window there is factory rivets and I just grinded them off. Unplug the electrical connections and pull the motor out and if you stare at it long enough you can remember how to get the old gear out. I had already forgot. I do remember that it was not hard to do. Then line the regulators up with the window holes and snap the new washers it. Find 4 short enough screws and nuts so it will clear everything when the window goes up and down. Don't tighten them too much or the window will break! That should do it if you can understand what I am trying to say. If I left anything out it should be self explanitory for most people. Good luck!
i went to the junk yard and got the parts i needed for six bucks. figured out how to replace them when i was taking them out of the wreck. it is true you do need an extra joint in your arm.
