Had a power glide once, never got out of passing gear lol
I took my driver's license test in 1971, in a 1962 Ford Galaxie with a 2 speed auto that was behind a 292 y-block...had trouble getting out of its own way. Passing gear was 1st gear in that boat.
I love these super duties as much as the next guy. But a 6.7 super duty only runs a high 15-second quarter mile. Thats pedal to the metal start to finish…..and that’s slowwwwwww.
Not exactly the type of acceleration that’s going to have you passing people without dropping a gear or more. That is unless the car next to you is going slow not accelerating.
Now these things will pull a house over but let’s not get to thinking they’re fast by any definition of the word. Especially without shifting out of top gear they’re far from passing much other than another truck without a downshift.
Why is it necessary to shift to a lower gear to go faster?

Well it depends on how fast you need to accelerate. And with a big slow truck…..like any super duty….sometimes it takes enough throttle that it’s going to downshift.
but it’s all good. I still wouldn’t trade my super duty for any sports car or any SUV just because they’re quicker. I love it too much for what it is…slow acceleration and poor handling and all!
LOL. Lots of great replies. yes, I got my drivers license in 1974. They did make automatic transmissions back then. When on a two lane, I find that when I push the pedal down it goes to 8th gear.
(I will not speak about what happens when I give it more than half pedal and the revs go to >4k and the transmission has to hunt to find a matching gear and everything happens in a hurry).

I think the point people are trying to make is that the 6.7 produces about 1000 ft lbs of torque and 300ish horse power at 1800 RPM's. It has exceptional passing power in any of the overdrive gears (8, 9, 10).

15's are right about what the average 60's- 70's muscle cars were running . 15's out of a 8k lb. truck isn't bad in my book!
I've only got 500 miles on mine so far (6.7L), but I mashed on it pretty good yesterday on the highway when passing someone and I went from 65 to 93 *much* quicker than I expected to. It's no Mustang, but I was impressed. I couldn't even begin to tell you which gear it downshifted to. There are too many gears to keep up with now.

MuscleCars&trucks tested the 2020 F250 Tremor 6.7L at 15.5 @ 92.2 MPH. MotorTrend tested another 2020 F250 Tremor 6.7L and recorded 15.5 @ 92 MPH.
Yeah, I agree, that's pretty darn good for an 8K truck!
