I have had this 21 Powerboost about 6 weeks I guess.
Filled it up today for the second time. First time was just under half a tank, we were going to have some freezing weather so topped it off, so I have no miles to empty data from that. Today was down to I think 44 miles until empty. I BELIEVE the gauge also showed what I would consider "about" that much fuel in the tank, but I dont remember. Filled up till it clicked, waited 30 seconds, filled until it clicked again. 30.007 gallons. WTF... The Powerboost is supposed to have a 30.6 gallon tank. Well .6 gallons would have in NO WAY taken me 44 miles at the calculated 18.6mpg. I was expecting to put in 26-27 gallons MAYBE 28, but definitely NOT a hair over 30.
I just went into engineering mode after this fill up to adjust the average MPG to have it be a little more accurate.
I see there are a bunch of other pages for fuel mileage and what not.
Is this something that is adjustable?
Do I have an issue with my fuel tank?
Do I just need to put more miles on the truck and the long term calculations will fix this?
Im not GENERALLY in a habit of taking a tank down to 44 miles to empty, it just happened today, but its a bit concerning that I would say its about 35 miles off.
Can you put it into engineering mode and adjust AFE Bias in the same way the previous generation was recalibrated?
yes.
My first fill was 932 calculated and this one was 941 so I split the difference and set it at 936. Ill keep checking it and maybe change it again. It takes me about a month to burn a full tank of fuel so not a quick process.
How does one get into engineering mode if you have push button start?
Same was as with any other truck.
Get in and close the doors. Wait until all screens go dark. Hold OK for 5 seconds. Hold OK and start the truck(foot on brake, push start button). Once truck starts and dash comes up, release the OK button. Worked for me yesterday.

How do you do this is you have a key version, no push button?
I would assume same steps except turn key to start rather than pushing the start button, but just speculating here. Did that not work for you? The "OK" being referred to is the button on the steering wheel, btw. On my 2015 XLT (key) the process was slightly different so I don't know if they retained that procedure. I don't recall exactly what it was, but it is available online if you search "Ford F-150 AFE Bias".
Hi, yes my ‘21 F150 5.0 is about two or three gallons off based on what I am able to put in the tank versus the mpg I am getting. I figure that will help save the fuel pump and keep me from running out. I’d rather it be conservative than be wrong the other way. I would definitely say that yours will improve as you drive more because I have seen an improvement with more miles driven.
Great experiment. Thanks for sharing. From experience, I can say this experiment is different in a diesel F250 4x4. I would be concerned about doing damage to the engine or fuel pump. I'm a bit surprised that you did this on a busy highway instead of a back country straight road.

It wasn't me; that's a youtube channel I've watched now and then. But I'm surprised too; this guy trades in trucks all the time for his youtube channel. I don't think he was worried about damage. With enough viewers, they make enough money to do stupid stuff.
I didnt watch that guys video, but my truck would have never made it to 0 miles to empty. It would have died showing ~30 miles to empty in my estimation.
Im hoping with tweaking the MPG calculator setting in engineering mode that the miles to empty will also be more accurate. We shall see.
Im not thinking I will take it to 0 miles to empty, but at 50 miles to empty I will fill up. Im currently getting ~18.4mpg on this tank so at 50 miles to empty I should have 2.75 gallons left.
Will report back, probably another week or two since I am driving our Prius more with gas prices being up unless I specifically need the truck...
