I bought a parts truck. advertised as a 1964, 4x4. shortbed. no bed. it is a custom cab. dana 44 high pinion, 9" rear 5 lug, looks like an fe motor based upon valve cover bolts. Grill is a 64, upper valance is different color than the cab so who knows
when i decode it using fordification it does not appear to match the truck.
obviously a body swap?
any idea what this drivetrain is from?
Thanks
According to the 64-factory manual the engine code shows up as a 292, no FE was available till 65. trans shows up as a standard duty 3spd. The grille is correct for a 64, the hood could be 65 or 66 as I don`t see any emblems. Look at the right top of the frame just under the cab fir a number too. It may well be a body swap.
I figured out the tranny is an np435 with a dana 221 transfer case.
Found this on line "The Dana 21 was the only F100 transfer case option for the 1966-1972"
Here is a pict of the steering set up
You don't have enough pictures to tell what it might be. Front axle is 66 and up F100 4x4. Motor mounts look like they were added and a 66 and up would have already been a FE engine. Maybe a 4x4 conversion to the 64 chassis? Are there signs of the previous leaf spring mounts? What does the front crossmember look like. Does it have a body lift, that would explain the lower valence being above the bumper. Or the 64 cab on a 66 or bumpside 4x4 chassis?
