I've had a problem for years which seems to be getting worse. When I cruise between 45-55, my engine stutters. If I am accelerating, no prob. I have an 89 f150, 300/6 efi, 4x4. At 128,000, I don't want to spend alot of dough to make a repair because it is more of an a nnoyance than a real problem.
Do you have a Chilton's or Haynes Manual? These, or this website: http://dalidesign.com/hbook/eectest.html
can explain how to run a simple engine self test and read error codes in the PCM through your check engine dash light. Not hard to do or learn. That's where I'd start. Is the engine stuttering, ie. cutting out, etc., or is the truck driveline stuttering? If you get a code 11 on the engine self test, then its probably not the engine and may be something in the driveline. If you need help learning the self test, repost and I'll try to walk you through it. Another good site is:
http://www.westecauto.com (go to Forums, then Ford Forums). You can post questions there and get answers from Ford tech folk, and its Free! Ain't the web great???!!!
I have a similar stuttering problem as well. I pulled the codes, but am really unclear on understanding them, even after reading the manual a few times. So... I went out of my way and recorded the tones with a mini-tape recorder. Not sure if it'd help at all, but "any" help on this subject would be greatly appreciated. A friend of mine recommended that I look into the high pressure fuel pump, dual function resevoir (I've got dual tanks), and the in-tank pumps, because it stutters until I really hammer on the gas pedal. Anyway, any help would be great. Thanks!
