i6 300 specs

Hi,
I using Dyno2000 to evaluate changes to my 1979 Ford F150
I6 300. In particular, I would like to know things like the stock
compression ratio and the stock cam duration/lift.

If anyone has done this before or has this information that
would great!

Thanks.

They varied to the year. Some were 8.4, some early ones 8.0, some 8.8 . It's between 8.4 and 8.8 anyway... Hopefully someone else will chime in with better info.
The only stock cam info I have shows .2490 for both intake and exhaust lobes. MK

bore 4.00
stroke 3.980
compression 8.5
induction flow 200cfm
intake valves 1.781
exhaust 1.560

thats what i came up with and when done rite the dyno says 140hp and and 240 lbs torque which is about right for the 300

Hi,
I get 125hp@3000rpm with 234ft/lb@2000rpm for the stock
i6 300. With your new specs, I get 160hp@3500 and 260ft/lb
@3000rpm, but there is not enough cam information.

I calculated that the new compression ratio would be 8.7:1. In
order to get better cam curves, I need to also know the lobe
center of your cam. That way, I can calculate other parameters.

Does anyone know the specific cam details on a stock i6 300? In
particular, the intake duration, exhaust duration and lobe center?

Thanks.

Add in the 1.75 ratio rockers

I think the jury is still out but would one of you figure the difference between a stock 85 300 and one with the addition of the 1.75 ratio rocker arms.

Sure, just give me the ratio of the stock 300 and the answer is
just a couple of mouse clicks away....

What ratio do you use on the stockers or do you just use cam lift?

Welcome to FTE, (DG)

I believe the stock rocker ratio is 1.6. ('been looking into changing it - and thats what other posts are saying).

If it's just a few mouseclicks, would you mind running my numbers? I have a stock cam and the rest of my engine numbers are in my sig., below.

Thanks, Broncr

Just adding the 1.75 lift rockers by themselves did very little. It
changed the valve lift from 0.249" to 0.272" and added 2HP.

Hi,
A 309 with 10.5:1 compression, 390cfm carburation and
headers gets 167hp@3500 and 312ft/lb@2000 according
to my dyno entries.

Something doesn't seem right with those numbers. Is .249 the lift of a stock cam at the lifter? If so then the vavle lift would be .398 and using the 1.75:1 rockers would yield .436 at the valve or a gain of .038. That is a good increase in lift and I would expect a lot more than two HP. can you check it again please.

I'm with ya Darkman. Actual valve opening is close to .400 - stock,
and my SOTP meter says I've got around 200 horsies, at least.
I imagine there's not a program alotment for port, polish, & mate, and since flow = HP on the 300, there's room for wiggle. A quality engine ballance does wonders too- less horsetheivin'...

My thanks for running the numbers anyway. I'll probably never have it dyno'd.
