Putting in a new engine

I was thinking about saving up some cash and putting in a new engine and I was wondering if it's possible to fit mustang engines or anything else that's built more for speed and not for hauling a ton of stuff?

If no one here has any good answers for you you could try asking in the 4.6 and 5.4 forum. There are lots of knowledgable people in there too.

Well, you could, but your truck is alot heavier and you will lose alot of low end torque needed to move the extra weight. You will gain upper rpm horsepower though.

I'm thinking about also just making it front wheel drive as well so I can reduce the power loss. Not sure the difficulties in that either though...

How is front wheel drive going to reduce the power loss?

Doesn't have to turn a driveshaft. It's easier to pull something than to push.

Only because when you are pushing a portion of your efforts are digging it into the ground more. And while a FWD setup may be more effient in terms of weight (ligter shafts, no big final drive, no driveshaft), I would argue its actual powerloss because of the chain drive that would be neccesary in almost any FWD application. Then there is traction concerns. There is a reason most FWD cars of similar power and weight will run .5 to 1.0 sec slower in the 1/4.
