4x4 Not Engaging Manually No Lights
Today the 4wheel wouldn’t engage. I thought that if I engaged the hubs manually that they would just work. But they didn’t. It didn’t click and the lights don’t turn on. They don’t even turn on with the key turned in the “on” position.
I’ve checked like 5 fuses associated with the 4x4 system using a multimeter. All checked out.
I’ve checked the two under hood relays by swapping them and there was no difference.
I’m about to climb under and check the two wires to the motor on the TC.
My understanding is that each of those wires grounds out and sends a signal to the 4hi and 4low bulb on cluster.
What I’m wondering is if I put a meter on each wire and switch the switch to 4hi and low, I should receive a voltage from each after switching the switch?
Now if I don’t get a signal, what does that suggest? Where should I go from there?
How do I identify if the motor on tc has crapped out? Any test I can do on that?
Does anyone happen to know which direction to manually spin the shaft/pin that the motor operates in order to select 4hi? I read counter clockwise but didn’t know if it was 1 click left or 2.
Are there any suggestions as to what I should do after testing and pulling the motor on TC?
At first I would switch the switch to 4hi and hear a click from the relay but it wasn’t engaging. The vacuum lines to the hubs were dry rotted. I replaced the lines and it worked but sometimes it didn’t.
I did a vacuum test on the hubs and the driver side was good but the passenger has a very slow leak. So I just started to do it manually whenever I needed it.
then I didn’t drive it much for a while and now that I’m ready to tow my huge camper, it’s not working.
so this means there’s an electrical problem between the motor and the relays?
or since the relays don’t click does that mean there’s another spot I should be looking at?
