Question AODE help?

A friend has a '95 E150 with a 4.9 and auto trans. We want to buy a replacement trans to rebuild so the van can be driven in the meantime. It appears the trans is an AODE based on some other posts here, but we aren't positive. The sticker shows a trans code "G". Could the trans be replaced with an AOD, or does it need to be an AODE? Also, I heard the 4.9 shares the same transmissions with the small blocks. Is that also true? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Well, now I'm even more confused. The site for Baumann Engineering says the trans could also be an E4OD. Does anyone know?

A code "G" transmission is a C6. This is a 3 speed tranny so there should be no circle around the "D" on the gear indicator. In 95 the 4R70W (code "U") and the E04D (code "E") were also available but these are both overdrive units. You could swap to an overdrive unit but the ECU would need to be changed as well as the wiring harness to power the electronic overdrive and possibly relays, switchs, cables, cruise control stuff, etc. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the help, Kyle. The C6 is worth keeping, but I wasn't aware they made it that late. None of the trans sites show a production C6 past '91. Does anyone know if the bellhousing is the same as smallblock V8 C6's of earlier years, or is the 4.9 pattern unique?
