Yeah my Neighbor and I talk about that all the time but have to much family here This used to be a great state
It used to be, but not anymore. Maybe it will be again, but not for the next several decades at least.
Judging by your username you have kids, I can't imagine having my kids be in Commiefornia schools getting all that garbage rammed down their throats and put in their brains everyday.

help my cat has been cut off twice now any ideas as to how to protect it from getting cut off
or any idea on how to keep the check engine light from coming on when I run a straight pipe between smog checks
yes I’m in California
thanks
Is your EX a Cali spec build? If not it doesn’t have an after cat O2 sensor, so it shouldn’t have a check engine light with a straight pipe. If it is a Cali build then it does have that extra sensor. You used to be able to find tuners who would write a tune to ignore that sensor but these days I doubt that you could find a tuner to even admit to that being done back in the day…….especially in CA.
If you live in an area where the thieves and salvage yards work together to make stealing cats profitable then your choices are to either move, run a straight pipe and deal with cat on/off at inspection time or build some kind of cage or cover over the cat area to make getting to it and cutting it out too much of a pain for the quick working thieves.
This has to be a very frustrating situation. Being a target that's too much effort is the best deterrent to encourage the thief to move on to something easier.
Using the cable strap approach would definitely slow them down and encourage them to move to an easier target. You should be able to string it through existing holes in the frame. Also make sure it's more than one cable so they have to cut through multiple cables and not just get through one and unstring it from the frame.
I like the idea of a motion sensor alarm under the vehicle in concert with the cable straps. That would definitely freak out a thief as they're crawling under there. Maybe you could rig it so it's on with key off?
Good luck and let us know what you come up with. Thieves suck.

string together a mesh of thin wire with alternating polarity on the spot where you park, and hook it up to a cattle grade electric fence charger, and crank it all the way up to MAX power.
Boy will he jump when he goes to roll under there. leave some grill marks on his back hehe.
I been using a motion sensor and some relays. The idea is the motion sensor is hooked into a door (i have front driver) open switch. When the rig ignition is turned off the motion sensor turns on and will open the door circuit if motion is detected. This sets off the alarm.
(only need one but got another to play around with)
Relay link:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01KVZ2MU4?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title
(only need two but again got spares, always can use a relay)
For power you will need to tap into a hot all the time and hot on ignition source (i used fuse taps). The hot all the time will go to relay 1 normally closed side. The ignition source will go into relay 1 coil trigger and a ground source to out side of coil trigger. Relay 1 other side of normally open goes to motion sensor. This should have power only sent when ignition is off.
Now with power coming from relay 1 it will split into the motion sensor power and motion sensor switch. The other side of motion sensor power will be ground. The other side of motion sensor switch will got to relay 2. With no motion sensed the switch will be open not allowing the 12v to got to relay 2. Once motion is detected the switch closes and 12v goes to relay 2.
The 12v signal wire from motion sensor will go to relay 2 coil side and a ground to other coil side. The relay 2 normally closed will split into a door signal wire so when there is no power to relay 2 the door wire will go thru the relay. When power is applied from the motion sensor the relay opens the door circuit which sets off the alarm.
Its a cheap fun project but nobody wants to steal a cat while the alarm is going off and people are looking. To sum it up with ignition turned off relay 1 sends power to motion sensor. When motion sensor, senses motion it passes the power to relay 2 which disconnects the door circuit triggering the alarm. With ignition on the motion sensor has no power so doesnt mess with the door open with ignition on.
Here is a list of what i got Motion Sensor Link (only need one but got another to play around with) Relay link (only need two but again got spares, always can use a relay)
Great idea and instructions! Looks like your links route back to your order list instead of the link to the item. Sometimes this happens when you click through your order to get to the item that you purchased on Amazon. Could you update your links? I'm interested in building this and would like to use known parts.

sorry bout that, updated but the relay one didn't work well in the link form (kept going to ebay for some reason) so I just put down the address.
