Moving

We are moving from NY back to Texas. We are going to have to get a uhaul truck or similar to load and haul our stuff. I have a 2003 F250 6.0 crew cab short bed 4x4 that I also need to get down there. Does anybody have any ideas on possibly towing this behind the uhaul, or any other ideas.

That's a lot of weight, and a UHaul car trailer is only a 14' deck if I remember correctly.

I just relocated back to Tennessee from Commifornia, and I had an auto transport company move my Fusion (i drove the superduty with a 37 foot trailer) for around $1800. It's insured, and hassle free.

2 options..
1. Put it on a transporter have them bring it to you.
2. Drive it down towing the biggest trailer you can rent.

You could flat tow it behind a U-Crawl ( 4 wheel down towing) if you have a manual transfer case, but that is a lot of weight to flat tow.

When I moved from IN to WI, I purchased a 28 foot enclosed car hauler and used it to move the household stuff (and some cars).

Buy an enclosed trailer big enough to haul your stuff, pull it with the Super Duty. Sell trailer after the move. Likely cost less than the rent on the U-haul truck.

thoughts....

1) buy a trailer. 20-24 foot enclosed trailer. Why usually those sizes are usually a vehicle hauling sized. The truck will be able to move it with ease. You can load most of your belongings in it without worry. Once to your final location, a trailer that size will be pretty easy to resell.
2) Rent a trailer. There is a place around the corner from me that rents trailers. I know it would be a pain to have to return the trailer once relocated. The last time my employer rented a 24 foot enclosed trailer for a trade show, it was around $600 for the week. This was cheaper and easier than renting a 26 foot box truck for the week which would have cost around $1400. In our case, it was easier to return at the end of the use. In your case, might not be hence option 1.
3) See others about auto transport. It might cost more since it is a super duty and the weight. Some auto haulers might charge more for relocating since it requires larger vehicles or equipment to relocate the truck.
4)Sell the truck where you are at. Find a new one in your new location. Right now the market is hot on both fronts. New and used. You should be able to get a descent amount of money for a new to you ride.

Personally, I would go with option 1. Find a 20 to 24 enclosed. They should be easy to find and flip once relocated. Speaking of which there was a user on this forum a few years back . He relocated from New Jersey to Florida using a 16 foot enclosed trailer. At the time he had a late model Super Duty 2014.

good luck!

Personally, I would sell the truck in NY.
I wouldn't trust a 2003 6.0 towing on a long trip.

Do you have another licensed driver in your house that could drive it down behind the U-Haul?

Two EXTREMELY smart moves given the present state of the world.....

Anyway, yeah I'd sell the SuperDuty in NY or find a way to drive it out. Trailering it is gonna suck. You could look into hot shots but dang they're expensive typically...and the cost of diesel can't help

If the truck is sound and you've done regular maintenance on it, find a decent enclosed trailer, load it up, and make the drive. If you don't want to keep the trailer when you're done, it'll be pretty easy to sell it since new trailers are hard to come by right now.

If the truck is showing its age, I'd sell the truck.
