That should be cool.

How does that guy keep water from seeping into the bottom of the Ford letters?

There is no avenue for water to pass through. The entire seam between the surface of the tailgate and the overlay panel is sealed with adhesive. In fact, it's the adhesive that oozes out when the panel is applied that becomes the filler for the step-up around the letters.
