I have a 1979 ford with 35" tires and a 351. But recently it has developed bad blow by. I am trying to decide whether to get the engine rebuilt or I have an inline 300 with about 50000 miles i could put in it. So which one would be better to do?
As said before, the cheapest thing is to rebuild the 351M. It doesn't sound like this truck is a showpiece or even fit for more than secondary roads. No sense spending conversion money--go with the lowest cost option.
Swerving suggestion....

Reason: found prior post.
Those 300's seem to just run and run forever...perhaps because they don't make enough power to hurt themselves or anything else. I really like them. Guessing you could swap yours in for the cost of some exhaust fitting and maybe another piece or two. On the other hand, the 351 will be more fun. Getting 1 hp per cube and over 1 lbft per cube with a 351 should be falling off a log easy.
