I appreciate your help sir. Yeah U-Haul has replaced the original engine with a 359 HD. And I wonder around about estimate and if it would be worth the time and fabrication to do this, and that is I have another dump truck it's F600 and same body style but I don't know what year exactly, but it has a different rear end under it. Where the 72 has the single speed rear it also has round axle housing tubes. And I wanted to swap it out for the rear under my parts dump truck because it has the hi/lo **** for the 2 speed rear but the axle housing tubes are square on that one. The U-joints I believe are even the same on the pinion end. Any knowledge or help would be very appreciated and thank you for your time and valuable knowledge. Have a great evening sir.
You could swap those axles but you'll have to bring over all the "round tube" items vs. the "square tube" stuff. Compare the springs, brakets etc, take some pics and see what's different and what has co come over.
If you find the axle code on the two speed truck we can see what you'd be bringing over. Chances are high range is what you have now, with low range being in the 8s. So if higher speed is the goal you should check the ratio before you swap.
The ratio is stamped on the 3 member above the pinion if all else fails.
