Don’t bust my chops for asking this; I actually searched this forum for this info before I started this thread. Didn’t see the info. Read the manual and it says 7500 miles for oil changes. No indication or specification on an 1st oil change either? What’s everyone take on this for gas engines (6.2). What’s the consensus? 7500 miles? All synthetic?
I'm sure this has been asked many times over (but I cant find it). If someone has a direct link I'll delete the thread.
It truly is what makes the owner of the vehicle comfortable with, me personally I just use the oil minder. I'm comfortable with 90-100% range (7-7,500 mile range). I use Motorcraft 5w30 semi synthetic oil and Motorcraft filters for my 7.3 engine, but whatever make you happy and is recommend should work just fine.
Others like shorter intervals and full synthetic and other filters even larger than oem recommended. Your vehicle your choice.
No need to do the first oil change earlier than Ford's scheduled maintenance. No need to use full synthetic. If you want to do the first earlier and/or use full synthetic, then by all means, go ahead. You will get a wide range of responses, most based on "this is what I've always done". Do what is comfortable for you.
I follow the truck reminder and use whatever I buy when I buy it. It's a matter of what you're comfortable with. I keep vehicles a loooooong time and haven't noticed my inconsistent buying habits having any tragic endings. My WRX had 211k when I sold it, my 08' Yaris has 280k and my 11' Pilot has 130k and I utilize the same strategy. This is my anecdotal evidence...
On my 6.2 I have always gone synthetic and every 5k. Oil is the lifeblood of an engine. Have 170k mine and it puts like a kitten. Like someone said before it is whatever you feel comfortable with within the recommendations.
I usually run 5000 if using locally a lot, If traveling on Hwy with lots of long distances, 7500 no problem. Fully synthetic, I run 0w30 because I use the same oil in my older dodge, and other vehicles.
I think I'll go every 5,000. My last truck I used Motorcraft Synthetic blend at Walmart when I do it. At shops when I'm lazy I used Dexos semi-synthetic. I must just go full Mobile 1 this time around. Thanks for all the answers gentlemen - it's appreciated!!!
If you want to run full synthetic, fine, you can, but there is no technical reason you should. The semi-synthetic runs just fine for the recommended service intervals.
HOWEVER, if you really really really want to run synthetic, start early while the engine is young, and then only run synthetic for the life of the engine.
Don't switch beck and forth and don't switch once the engine has a good bit of mileage on it. I ran Motorcraft semi synthetic for 150,000 miles in my F-150 5.4L Triton. A service advisor suggested I run Mobile 1 full synthetic for high mileage engines and that sounded reasonable, so I switched to that. With in 2 oil changes I was leaking a quart a month. Never leaked before. Is changing oil formulation the causative? I can't prove that, but I can prove the timeline of events.
The take away is run what you want, but start early and stick with it for the life of the truck.
And I'll be doing my first oil change a little early, at 5,000 miles, and will always use Motorcraft semi synthetic or equivalent. It makes me happy.

You dont need to run that. Protip just take the gasser to the dealer…. If you have a decent one around you. They use the Motorcraft stuff.
