Whe you get the new cables check to see if they match the old on how long they are and the springs.
I had to replace the cables on mine and found that the springs were to long and would hit the drum.

I had to cut the springs shorter to fit the drum on but I think they are still to long as the pedal get hard about half way down like it should but the brake just barely holds on flat and no way on a hill. It works better forward than back. I even bought a second set from a different place (I think) and the springs were the same? BTW I had nothing to go by as 1 cable was missing the I tossed the other as it was frozen.

Dave, what brand cables did you use? I recently replaced my E brake cables with a set from Wagner. They were the same fit as the originals which were OEM.

I've had good luck with Wagner parts. Be sure to order them specific to your model and I think you'll be happy with Wagner.

Wow,I see that,as my spring are horizontal thru the bottom of hub .I know rock auto lists 4-5 makes and some go by wheel base . Mine. Is 117 and it was not listed on the parts I ordered
Good info and if not the right cables I will return .I had this happen on the passenger wheel around 2004-2006 and as I was working long hours 6-7 days a week , took it to a mechanic as he replaced the passenger side cable .I hate brake jobs .TR

Who did you go through to buy them?

I dont remember the brand or who I got the 2 sets through now. Truck has been on the road 2+ years now and this cable thing was years before that LOL
I do have the 2 cables still in the packages I guess I could find and see who made them.

I don't recall who I bought them from. Probably on line purchase. Try ebay or amazon. Rockauto.com carries some wagner parts too.

I checked for my truck on rockauto for the wagner cables. Didn't see them there. Probably got them on line.

Regardless of which brand you go with you need to match your model and always get a matched set from the same mfgr. These cables have about the same lifespan so replacing as pairs is recommended and then the lengths at the hub and at the frame bracket will be correct at the balancer.

Rock auto has raybestos,Seems only the front cables are listed using the wheel base . It also lists it as no ambulance package .TR

Yeah the single cable to the E brake pedal will vary based on wheel base. I wasn't sure if short and long box or flaresides made any differences. It would make sense to standardize the rear cables for all configurations.

The wagner cables I got matched original cables and installed with no surprises.

I don’t know where they were made , I’ll assume China , I burned the boxes . While looking for the boxes, found the parts for my rear brake job for my 92 bronco ( sitting on self ) raybestos, wearever ,made in China .This was ordered as a full rear kit from Jeffs bronco graveyard. They did not have it for my 1985 application. Hard to find made in the USA ,every company farms there work else where..
Dave - Rock auto is were I purchased them!

The wagner cables I got were made in USA. Many of their parts are that I have purchased all made in the USA. Very happy with the quality of their parts. That said they did move their headlight manufacturing to China.
