Hey guys, Ive had my truck since 2011. It was originally a blue truck but one of the previous owners painted (poorly) it red. Its time for it to be painted as ive got some rust issues and the paint is coming off pretty easily. im torn between a dark red, similar to the new Ruby Reds of f-series truck or a dark to medium blue. Hoping some of yall wouldn't mind positing your pics of your trucks to help me decide. below is a pic of my truck. The wooden slats will be coming out they were a prop for Christmas parade.
It's always best to stay with the original color if you like it. next best as another original color . and original gives a bit of flexibility because today's base/clear is going to be different under any circumstances with most colors.
What blue was your pickup ? mine was Midnight Blue and this is it in base/clear.
If truck was originally midnight blue like 440s, I'd go with that. Not just to put it back original but because it is a killer color on these trucks. My first 77 highboy I bought back in 79 was midnight blue. Man did it ever have high curb appeal even back then. Not sure what color your interior is but if its still blue that's another reason but if it was changed to red that might be some incentive to stay red
My truck was originally silver. PO painted it green. I wanted white so I painted it white. Not one of the colors you mentioned but here is a pic of mine anyway. Be sure to paint it what YOU want unless you are painting it to resell.
I wouldn't ever paint a color I didn't like on one of these because the value change doesn't warrant it. but IF you like the original color it's a no brainer.
There are a few rare colors usually found on Explorer packages that would be different yet original. I bought a new 1979 f150 SWB 4x4 that was a color similar to today's Ford Bronze Fire. I believe it was called Vaquero. I loved that color and I'd paint that over any color if I had a rig it was proper on.
Thanks guys, It was a lighter blue and the interior is a mix of blue and black so itll have to be painted as well. im really liking the midnight blue. Does anyone have a color code for that?
It was " S " . also known as bright dark blue some years.
My pickup is actually 2019 GMC Stone Blue . it has more pop to it because it's a base/clear of course and it has enough pearl in it to wake it up. it is a close enough color match though that you don't notice the original paint in the interior as being different.
It's original only better in my opinion, an acceptable upgrade just like radial tires.
