I've got a 1993 F250 XLT standard cab, long bed, E4OD, 460, and auto hubs. When I pull the floor mounted transfer case shifter the lever goes into 4wd but the light on the dash does not go on. I remember this issue from the end of last winter, now that it is snowing again I was reminded of the problem.
I haven't been able to test if I'm actually in 4wd or not but my question is:
What turns the light in the dash on? Is it the position of the 4wd lever (meaning I have may have a bad switch), or does something in the driveline/transmission have to engage?
Check and make sure the arm that your linkage connects to at the t-case is tight. If it is loose the light switch will not engage. I had this happen on mine
My light comes on sometimes so I don't think it is the bulb and I know it isn't the fuse. If I understand correctly the switch for the light is on the t-case, and therefore the light should come on immediately when i pull the lever back to engage. Is this correct?
