Inherited 2005 Ford Excursion
I've inherited a 2005 ford excursion 6.0. I have been browsing the forum for an hour or so but cannot seem to locate an answer for my question. Please keep in mind, I am not a car/truck guy so some of the stuff I am describing might sound ridiculous. I am not one for having a lifted vehicle and would like to keep this more of a daily driver.
The excursion is lifted with at least a 6" lift (has fox 2.0 shocks) from what I can tell. Doing my research it doesnt seem you can do a 4" lift with 37 " tires(37x12.5x20).
A couple questions:
1/ What is the best way to go back to stock ride height or near it and possibly keep the wheels and get a new set of tires. Since this will be a daily I would like it to ride less harshly.
2/ If I cannot go back to stock height (I am assuming parts are no longer available). What is the next best option? Are there 2" lift kits available? It seems like I can only see 4" lifts or greater.

Getting the wagon back down to stock or near stock height is doable, what will need to be changed depends on what’s under it currently. Can you snap some pictures of the suspension, front and rear to share here so we can offer some solutions? Try to capture the springs and where they attach to the axles, front and rear.
If you want a smooth ride going to short sidewall tires on 20” wheels isn’t the direction to go, taller sidewalls help to provide a better ride, maybe consider 18” - 16” wheels.
I threw away the stock rear lift blocks but those are still available from multiple places.
I’ll gladly trade you all four stock springs for those fox shocks ( they’ll be to long for you to use with the excursion at stock height anyway)

I think that for an SUV that was only in production for six years and had a fairly low production volume that ended 17 years ago that there is a decent level of traffic here at the best EX forum on the web.

Once you have over 10 (I think that’s the number) posts and have been a member for about two weeks (looks like you are good there) you will gain access to the Private Message function here, then you can contact other members via PM. However, I would suggest that you float all of your questions here in the forum as then everyone can see it and add their expertise and experience, I certainly don’t have all the answers.

As to the 37" on a 4" lift, it can be done. Heck, @pirate4x4_camo runs 40's on his and if I remember correctly, he's at 27" ride height all the way around. Then again, he's done some cutting in key areas to prevent rubbing. I seem to remember some folks around here running 37's with pulling back the fender liner a bit as well.
If it were me, and I didn't mind a 6" lift (getting in and out and all), I'd maybe go after some custom valved shocks in order to soften the ride. That'll keep you from doing a bunch of work, buying new tires, etc.
Sent you a PM, you should be able to read it, even if you haven’t satisfied the requirements to turn it on on your end yet.
@ADower if you're looking at lift kits for F250/F350, the heights are different. the Excursion sat 2" lower than the F250
