I want to give my 05 x PSD a bit of a lift with going into the whole lift kit thing.
I've read the V/B code spring mod will give it about a 1.5 inch lift and a smoother ride. However, I'm not sure this can be done on a 2005. The parts only go up to a 2004.
For MY 2005, Ford changed the 4x4 F-series trucks front suspension to coils.
The 4x4 Excursion 2005 retained the 2004 leaf front suspension since
it was the last year of the Excursion.
The 2wd Excursion always had coil springs up front.
The 2005 Excursion DID get the same new grille treatment as the F-series
trucks.
Thus, the 2005 Excursion is a mix of old 'n new which makes nearly
everything more complicated to figure out. But, it's a small
price for owning the King of SUVs.
The V/B code spring swap is the way to go! I just finished doing it to my EX, and it rides great! I also added the overload spring from the B code springs to the front spring pack (great idea I sort of stole from WE3ZS).

can you pm me the details and where to get them? thx
I am trying to get this done myself within the next 2-3 weeks as I may have a little time when I am not teaching. I believe I am going with the W/B's as it looks right now. I really want to be one of the "I should've done this long ago" crowd!
Not to thread hi-jack but can some folks tell me about doing a modified b rear? From what I've read here on the forum code B's are from an 04 SD rear and a modified code B is that plus 2 sets of certain leafs on my exsisting X leaf pack? What I'd like to know is if someone could tell me if I do this for my rear if I will need to do the code V's fronts or if I can just do a modified code B in the rear without doing the fronts?. I'm wanting a small tiny bit more rake in my rear from the stock. Also if someone could tell me how much more rake I could gain in the rear with a modified code B. Around how much *more* lift I could get in the rear.

I used the stock blocks and got 2" of lift by swapping my stock springs out for the B's and modding them (adding the bottom 2 leaves from my stock springs to the bottom of the B code springs). I did the fronts with V codes and gained right around 2" in the front, so it's acting like a 2" lift for me. If you don't do the fronts, 2" might be a bit much for the rake (2" doesn't sound like a "tiny bit" of lift to me).
The modified B adds a little over the height of the bottom 2 curved leaves from your stock springs (plus a tiny bit by swapping the leaf spring spacers). If you were to do just B's, you might get the "tiny bit" of lift you want.
Stewart has seen a ton of us do various spring combos...maybe he can confirm the "plain" B code swap lift amount.
Damn, 2" added to the rear? yeah that does sound a bit *too much* for some rake. I was wanting maybe exactly half an inch to 1 full inch added. What would be my option there to gain something of those amounts of rake? non-modified B's? Or something else? I also wanna kill the wander from the *induced rear steering* caused from the spring wrap of the stock springs. Oh yeah and my X is an 05 which to my knowledge came with factory sways? or should I do a hellwig?

Sounds like Roadmaster Active Suspension (RAS) might be what you are looking for. Blocks alone won't fix the wander. RAS is supposed to help the wander and it seems to give most about an inch or so of lift. I may add RAS to my modded B's since I carry about 200-250lbs every day in the rear, and when I tow I tow heavy and I end up about 1/2" lower than the front.
I thought all Excursions come with front sway bars? I know some guys add rear F250 sway bars. I debated it, but after the V/B spring swap, two sway bars would have my wife being thrown around the cabin any time we turn in to a parking lot.
You may want to check your front springs. If you have less than an inch of play between the axle and the bump stop, you need front springs anyway, and if you are going to fix the springs with the V swap, Modded B's will give you the stance you are looking for (provided you don't do what I do and run with a bunch of weight in the rear every day).
Hello all, I am new to the forum and a recent new owner of an excursion.
I use my ex for work, I travel and tow a 9000 TT all over the US, and regularly carry 1500 pounds of cargo on a daily basis. should I go with air bags or do a spring conversion? I just towed my trailer 900 miles and it was not a great experience. I use a WD hitch and I was still all over the road every time I was passed by another large vehicle.
I don't have a lot of money and want to try to take of both problems.
