Monday I dropped my truck off at the dealer, again for black exhaust tips and using coolant in the main cooling system. they still have it! maybe something will get fixed this time?
Maybe. It would be nice to get these issues resolved prior to warranty expiration! If the dealer claims the DPF issue is normal again, they won't be doing so truthfully for your mileage truck. Most of us here know this isn't normal. If the separate coolant issue reason isn't found and you can't find a leak, I'd recommend at least an oil sample tested if you haven't already. Any oil growth?
not being funny...doesnt look bad too me..more like gray color
It's still not normal and the real risk is when it does eventually trip a fault at 55,000 miles or some post emissions warranty number with engine de-rate and now you're purchasing a new DPF that had known issues under warranty, if you can even get one.
Dpf is cracked but without a p2002 they won't do anything.
If it failed emissions they would be forced too.
I think ca is the only state that woukd flag the tips
Right gone are the days that a mechanic can use his brain or troubleshoot.
I am almost tempted to take it to Phoenix and pay for emissions testing and see if it fails.
Oh don't do that. The next visit will be to the referee.
I do believe something is amiss with your truck. My tips are spotless.Has the dealer gotten back to you yet. There is a shortage of diesel mechanics out there so the line can get kind of long not to mention the parts availability is short.
I'm wondering how common this problem is. I have an '18 350 dually 6.7, the emmisions systems has always seemed healthy, for 24xxx miles anyway. Never shown any soot on the inside of the exhaust tip. Regens always kick in when supposed to, always regens down to zero. Couldn't tell you how many miles between regens though.
I called yesterday, again. they replaced entire exhaust system. supposed to call me this morning to go pick it up.
3rd dealership finally fixed it.
What exactly did they find wrong? My truck is getting the same symptoms as yours, slight coolant loss, sweet smelling exhaust. Mine also has white smoke at startup until up to temp.
I took to dealer and said almost sure it's a cracked egr cooler. Of course they found nothing because there is no CEL. All they did was pressurize the coolant system and checked for leaks. Said no leaks, no noticeable smoke or exhaust smell...to which I claimed BS!
So after I calmed down, I said to service manager that your hands are tied because of the no CEL, correct? He said yes, being under warranty, they have to strictly follow the Ford "play book"

pressure tested cooling system, passed, refilled coolant.
I am thinking egr cooler or boost cooler but maybe only leaks when hot?
