Question for WI guys. I am buying an F-350 from out of state and trying to figure out what to put on the registration form. Can I transfer my plate from my current F-150? The wording on the MV-1 form seems kinda vague it says "GROSS WEIGHT FEE SCHEDULE Gross Weight: Vehicle weight plus the weight of any load you plan to carry." Do I need to use my 11,300lb GVWR?

The form says trucks up to 8,000 lbs can transfer plates, so it looks like you will need new plates.
Second, you can register the truck for any weight you want. You can register for 8000, 10,000, 12,000, etc. But whatever weight it's registered for is your limit. You cannot be over that weight with the truck at any time. That would include hitch weight, the truck, and any passengers/cargo. With an F-350 8k is out just from weight of truck. So you could register for 10k and save some money if not loading it heavy. And can always change it in the future if need be.
I'm buying a F-350 and will be registering for 12k in WI so I don't have any issues pulling RV trailer and cargo.

The above statement sounds similar to the explanation I got at my dealer when picking up mine a few months ago. Some of the wording from my dealer was confusing and then I confused him more by asking about dual-purpose farm plates that I wanted but he didn't know how to process. Anyway, I ended up going with the Heavy 12,000 lb plates to try and avoid any issues even though the 10,000 might have been fine. I didn't have all my weight needs figured out exactly ahead of time as I wasn't expecting it to be as confusing as it was to me.
I transferred from my F150, which had a "C" (8000lbs) plate. The DMVsaid register it however you want, its up to the enforcement officers to determine if you've under-registered your vehicle. I do not do any commercial work, only a small personal trailer once in a great while, and a 5th wheel every other weekend.
