Hi guys
Slowly working through my endless list of jobs on this rebuild. The next one is to change the input/front seal on my manual steering box. I've already replaced the output seal which was very easy.
Do I need to remove the front 4 bolts to change this seal? I know not to remove the 4 side bolts or a world or pain will apparently be unleashed on my sole.
Also, can anyone advise of the part number for the seal? There appears to be several different kits. Do the front 4 bolts have to come off this?
That input seal is not available ANYWHERE. It does not cross over to anything. You have 2 choices. Leave the original seal intact if its not leaking, or remove square retainer plate and have the seal OD in plate bored out to match a standard neoprene lip type seal dimension. The shaft is a standard diameter so matching that seal ID is not a problem. If you choose the latter, PM me and I'll show you what I did and what seal I used. I knew Bluetop Steering rebuilt these boxes so called them to see if they had a seal custom made or what. They are the ones that told me about boring the plate to accept a standard seal which is what they do
Hi everyone.
Firstly thanks to Jason for your reply.
The standard seal is 1.174" OD, 0.875" ID and 0.25" width which doesnt seem to exist...however...
There is metric seal which is 30mm OD, 22mm ID and 5mm width.
This equates to 1.1811" OD, 0.86" ID and 0.197" width. Do you think I could squeeze the 1.1811" into a 1.174" hole?
