Has anybody ever heard of a shipping plug or cap that fits in place of the oil filter? Getting closer to pulling the engine, prepping the little details.
The stock oil filter sticks out about 5 inches or so (351W). I’d like to remove the filter for extra clearance, but hate to have oil dripping everywhere. I’m wondering if anybody makes a protective cap that screws onto the empty filter pad. I’ve searched online but am not sure what to even call it.
Just remove the filter if you want extra clearance and use a rag to catch the drips. I've never heard of a plug or cap for the oil filter housing but if one exists it might not work too well. I got a set of Lisle transmission tail shaft plugs when I removed the transmission on my Oldsmibile and it didn't do anything. There was still a horrible mess.
Put a ziplock bag over it and duct tape it tight. Adapt and overcome.
Agree... some of us tend to over think things sometimes...
I also think there should be plenty of room to clear the filter as you lift the engine, shift it forward, lift, wiggle, lift, move forward, lift...I think you can figure it out. It's a full size pick up truck...

Oh, you'll smoke a turd in h#ll for that! *
Too late, by the way. I've already been pricing different 3D printer options for my latest invention. Or I could make do with a large acorn nut and a flat disc with a hole in the middle.
*Bonus points if you can identify this obscure reference without a web search.
Id buy a pos fram or stp filter and just use it as a cap
The whole idea was I wanted something shorter, for clearance with the frame. As it was, it's all a moot point. After raising the engine to clear the motor mounts, the oil filter was no longer in the way.

I know, reason why I suggested was they usually are short and I didn't think they'd snag anything.
I saw you got it pulled so yea definitely moot. Glad it went smooth so far.
