Hi all.
I've got a '98 F-150 with the 4.6 that previously had a dual exhaust installed probably 20+ years ago. Exhaust has been in a pretty sad state and has been rusting away. Decided to fix and purchased a Flowmaster American Outlaw cat-back exhaust. (https://www.holley.com/products/exha...r/parts/817663)
Went to install today and had a few complications.
It appears as though the exhaust installers years ago cut off the rear OEM hanger on the passenger side. It looks like I should maybe just try to get a generic hanger? Passenger side
The installation instructions reference hanging a new hanger (that is supplied) on the driver's side using pre-drilled holes. My frame doesn't appear to have these holes. Should I drill holes or try to fashion a generic hanger? Driver's side
It looks like the original installers used generic hangers, but would like to do it the 'right' way if possible. Thoughts?
Is the OE passenger mount bolted or just riveted? I would have to check mine. Either way, I would get the OE mount back on there...had to do this on the '96 and the '92. Not too hard. On the driver side, I would mock it up and drill holes as needed. You will need a serious bit to drill the frame and using a smaller bit (1/8" or so) for a pilot hole helps along with lube while drilling.

Yeah, passenger side looks to be riveted. Where's the best place to get a replacement? Dealership or just go to a pull-a-part place and drill out the rivets there and replace with bolts?
On my other trucks, I had to hit the JY and drill the rivet. Began with starter pilot hole, increased to larger. Whacked it off with a chisel and hammer. Used some good fasteners and have been problem free since. Lisle tools makes a very nice exhaust hanger tool, worth it when farting around with this stuff.
Figure drilling the frame will need a carbide bit, not cheap like the regular black oxide ones. I would do that rear one last so it is placed exhaust where you want it located.
I bought a knockoff Magnaflow kit on ebay and shockingly it fit right on the money...and around $180 shipped. HA All mandrel bent, 5x8x18 muffler. 3" all aluminized. I will try to find a pic.
Thanks!

Just a follow up:
Passenger side was not riveted; it was bolted. Found a non-cut replacement for it from a junk yard that fit great.
I did have to drill the driver's side to accept the new hanger, but it was super fast with the right bit and some lubrication.
The exhaust doesn't seem to hang just right and is too high for the exhaust tips to fit properly to exit out under the bumper, but I may just leave it without the tips.
